Effective Altruism
and the Pledge
I have been lucky enough not to die from pregnancy complications, malaria, parasitic worms, HIV/AIDS, stroke, tuberculosis. I’ve been fortunate enough not to have to tend to someone suffering from or the loss of someone from the aforementioned. I have been privileged enough to have access to education and opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute with, not impeded by birth defects, poor nutrition, deprived of clean water, sanitation, technology, shelter, or medicine. Unfortunately, many aren’t as lucky as I am.
As the proverb goes: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
In this spirit, Necessitating Change has pledged to donate 20% of its gross profits to the most effective charities, and I encourage individuals, communities, and companies to join me to whatever capacity they can afford.
